Pétanque at White River Country Club
From Humble Beginnings to a Thriving Club Today
Pétanque, also known as boulles, is a relaxed team game perfect for social gatherings. Played in pairs or triples, the rules are simple and easy to pick up, requiring no prior experience or special skill. At White River Country Club, games take place on a purpose-built six-lane piste just below the clubhouse veranda, with matches lasting around 30-40 minutes. Introduced in 2020, pétanque quickly became a favourite pastime, attracting both beginners and experienced players and creating a lively, engaging community.
Pétanque at White River Country Club is open to adults of all ages. Most games are social, with teams drawn randomly using name tags. Beginners are fully welcomed, boulles are provided, and novices are paired with experienced players to learn quickly. With around 16 active participants, the community is steadily growing. Fun fact: in France, a team losing 13–0 traditionally “Mettre Fanny”, at White River Country Club, this playful tradition hasn’t been needed… yet!

Pétanque is social, easy to learn, and requires no special fitness level, making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Highlights include the annual Crazy Obstacle Day, where tyres, bricks, and other challenges are scattered across the piste. This event captures the playful, fun spirit of the game at White River Country Club, ensuring laughter, friendly rivalry, and memorable moments for all players.
